Abstract. A comparison between relatively socialist China and technobureaucratic URSS after a visit to these two countries in 1979. At that moment Mao Tse Tung was already dead and the Cultural Revolution, finished, but the reforms led by Deng Hsiao-ping had not yet began, and, so, China still conserved some socialists traits, while URSS was already a fully statist social formation.
